As a result of unprecedented economic turmoil being experienced in the state, and a drastic diminishment of financial support from Lansing, the Wayne State University Board of Governors has approved an increase in tuition of 5.4 percent, to be bought down in the current year to 4.8 percent for Michigan-resident undergraduate students through the application of federal stimulus funding. A formal resolution announcing the increase was passed by the Board at its July 1, 2009 meeting. The resolution cites the Board’s disappointment that the increase was necessary.
Under this tuition plan for the 2009-10 academic year, a Michigan resident freshman will pay $250.90 per credit hour, compared to $239.40 last year. The omnibus fee will increase $4.30 per credit hour. This fee provides funds to maintain, upgrade and replace student computing and technology resources on campus. A portion of the fee is also used for student activities, including athletics, and this year will include funding for an expansion of health clinic services for the campus community.
